I recall a few years back, I was on the McCloud River in Northern Cal and I hit the hatch perfectly, there were very few rising trout, it was just an awesome experience to witness this hatch.
So this brings me to this posting, I joined a Fly Swap on the FlyfishingAddicts forum, pretty cool guys and a few gals on there. It's been quite some time since I've participated in any fly swaps. I actually used to host quite a few, that got old real quick.
I decided to tie a Sedge Pupa, my rendition of an October Caddis. It's a fairly easy to tie. Here are a few that are almost ready to hatch, sort of an emerging sedge.

Hook: Partridge Flash point Czech Nymph size 8
Under-body: lead adhesive tape
Thread: Black 6/0
Body: UV Light Yellow, Brown Nymph skin, .006 mono for segmentation
Legs: Partridge
Wings: Swiss straw brown
Head: Dark Hares Ear
Antennas: Two Peasant Tail Fibers

I'm quite sure all the guys who receive these sedge pupa, will be more than happy when they fish them. I used this pattern the last time I was in the Kern Flats area and they were quite deadly, it wasn't October but they still enticed plenty of trout.
Cheers!

Hey Benny,
I'm a big fan of your sedge pupa- those are some killer flies. I work for Leland Fly Fishing Outfitters in San Francisco and I'm hoping to talk to you about your blog. Do you have an email address where you can be reached?
Thanks
