California Heritage Trout, McCloud Redband Rainbow Trout

I often reminisce about fly fishing, going back through photos with dates of when and where I caught and released a fish on a certain date. I look at the photos by dates on my desk top, every digital image has all this data store with it, this is genus.

On October 23, 2006 I was in Northern California fly fishing on the McCloud River. It was one minute past twelve when I snapped a photo of this beautifully colored McCloud River Redband.

The daytime temps were cold, cold enough for me to be wearing a fleece mid day. The McCloud River is likely one of the most beautiful places I have ever fly fished. The water is so clear and some areas of this river have a somewhat odd blue glacial look to it. You can see the color of the water behind the fish pictured below. The water sort of reminded me of the Yucatan minus the tropical temperatures.

I really don't feel like making the drive all the way up to Mount Shasta, it's a really long haul from Los Angeles... wish I had some sort of sci-fi teleportation device to just send me and my dog, along with all the necessary fly fishing gear.

Cheers!
