The Double Hall Ball

All the rain storms we have been having the past few weeks have really put a damper on my fly fishing. So what's a guy to do when he cant get out on the water? Well you go to The Double Haul Ball out at the Long Beach Casting Club.

The Double Haul Ball was held last Saturday March 26 at the LBCC, even with the rainy weather forecast the event had a great turnout. The who's who of fly fishing the surf were on hand. This event was strictly on how to fly fish the surf in Socal. Some people pay to learn how to fly fish the surf, this was totally free!

Fly fishers of all levels on hand, from the newbie to the seasoned casting instructor.

On hand were lots of certified casting instructors giving out free casting lessons, come on free casting lessons from a certified instructor, this is awesome!

talk about hands on lessons from the very best in the business.

This event will in all likelihood dramatically reduced my learning curve when it comes to sight fishing for corbina.

Al Q had a great power-point with a whole slew of what I would consider the best Socal saltwater fly fishers sitting at the front of the room giving there point of views on how much work and dedication it actually takes to stalk the corbina on the fly.

You could actually see the passion Al Quattrocchi has for this sport.

We had some excellent fly tyers on hand as well.

Non-stop information was being feed to everyone on hand, here Jon Nakano explains why it's better to target a group of corbina versus a single.

Before the event James Dwyer stopped of at Lowes for some quick supplies. He taught some of the attendees how easy it is to make your own stripping basket for just under ten bucks.

The only thing missing from the event was the saltwater and the corbina. I had a really great time seeing some friends and rubbing elbows with some of the best fly fishermen in Socal. I must say that these guys have cut my learning curve for when I go stalk the corbina in the skinny later on in the year. Thanks to all of you that put this great event together.

Cheers!
