We have been very fortunate to have had a very nice summer here in SoCal, the temps have been very mild and I have been enjoying the nice temps and hope that it stays that way. The marine layer has been rolling in every evening keeping things real nice and cool. Most summers it's only around in the months of May and June for the most part, the weather men/women call it May Gray & June Gloom. Anyhow the cooler weather reminds me that fall is just around the corner.
I have to say Fall is the best time of the year for fly fishing in my opinion. We get these nice cool days, the crowds of summer are all gone. The beautiful fall foliage on the trees, and the trout seem to go on the chew.
I decided to go through one of my fly boxes to see if everything was in order for some fall fishing. Of course I had my camera handy and ready to take a few photos of some of the flies in the box. I snapped off a few to share with all who frequent the SoCal Fly Fisher. I took the regular color photos and converted them to black & white. Hope you all enjoy the images, nothing real special, but I like the way they turned out.
Caddis Flies, these here are fairly large and are suppose to mimic the October Caddis Flies.
Pheasant Tails, these are one of my go to flies and work in almost any river.
Czech Nymphs, are great as well. I high stick with these, and it works just as well as the Czech nymphing technique.
Bead head flashback pheasant tail, these flashy pheasant tail are either hot or they're not. Some days the fish will want all the flash and next day they will not even look at the fly.
Have fun this Fall, it's really just around the corner. If you have not started tying flies for Fall, it's a good time to start, summer is almost over... woohoo!
Cheers!

Great looking flies. I love looking through other people's fly boxes. Thanks for sharing. I'm excited to see them in action.
